Bob Oates is big on supporting small businesses because it helps the community, creates jobs, and improves the local economy. Also customer service is more personalized and building a relationship with those businesses are more likely than that of a bigger chain. Here’s some of Bob’s favorite local small businesses that he favors around Seattle.
Picolinos strives to offer authentic regional Italian cuisine, in a warm and casual neighborhood style. Prices are reasonable and great care is taken to carefully select high quality ingredients, wines and spirits which compliment the cuisine. Because of this, it’s Bob’s favorite Italian restaurant in Ballard. From their ever-changing dinner specials to the scrumptious dessert menu, their food is closest to what he remembers as being home-made & their sauce reminds him of cooking with his grandmother on Sundays in Brooklyn.
Bob has known this family for over 15 years and they are not only a great group of people but put out some amazing food! Michoacan is located on 15th Avenue NW in Ballard. You can always count on a delicious meal with a casual family-friendly environment. Luis, the owner & father of the servers, always has a great big smile & a happy wave from the kitchen. Bob and his family will be going back for margaritas & yummy seafood soup “Caldo De Mariscos Michoacan” for as long as they stay there.
Greenwood True Value is a great place to pick up local hardware. This store is hands down, the best around when looking for a small neighborhood place that carries one of everything! The owner Mike, is always updating his store & supplies. For me it’s an adventure to see what’s new. Greenwood True Value is my “go to” store for all things hardware. Think global. Shop local.
Taproot Theatre Company was founded in 1976 by six friends, five of them graduates from Seattle Pacific University. From its humble beginnings as a touring group, the company is now Seattle’s largest mid-size theatre company. Taproot theater is a wonderful venue for live theater performances. The sets are amazing and the actors are top notch. The quaint venue is perfect to immerse yourself and escape from the everyday grind. I can’t wait to see what’s next. Great for the whole family!
This is Bob’s go to local shop for cool eye wear. He has been taking his family to the boutique for years now because of the great selection that you won’t find any where else. Eyes on Fremont also has a strong sense of community and sponsors other local radio stations, colleges, and programs. Tell them Bob Oates sent you.
